    Rapid Hammocks Kickstarter

A link to this site popped up in my facebook feed this evening:
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../rapid-hammock

Not exactly groundbreaking design. Maybe a little more complete than an ENO or tablecloth hammock but the netting and tarp will still have to come from somewhere.

The PR video was pretty cool, up until the point you realize their packs must be stuffed with pillows (riding high, hip belt detached, bounding around). Anybody here jumping on the "Rapid" wagon?

Another kickstarter making hammocks for people who know absolutely nothing about hammocks. The video shows them stringing the hammock, not at 30 degrees; closer to 0 degrees. Everyone lies in the hammock banana style. This kinda stuff should be outlawed.

    And the best part:

    1lb 9oz ultra light-weight design

    Please. Just stop.

I was thinking the same thing.

But gotta hand it to them: their marketing video was pretty superb.

I agree with ya. I don't get why people think it's all one way or nothing. I'd rather people buy this and learn more later than to never venture into the hammock world. I would have much rather had this than my overpriced doublenest as my first hammock. I also get why they chose the cinch buckle...it's easy. When I started out I was so confused with all the suspension types. I'm not sure why anyone here would discourage people from advancing the hammock, whether you agree with their product or not.

Why's that? Hammockforums isn't promoting hammocks; they're "the go-to source for hammock information," but there's no agenda to promote hammocks. Vendors who sell hammocks and hammock accessories might have an agenda to promote hammocks, but the rank-and-file HF member doesn't.

This product does not advance the hammock. From the weight, to the permanently attached suspension (so you can pack the suspension with the hammock and insure both are equally wet), to the shoulder strap (really? I'm gonna carry my hammock outside my pack? For what purpose?), to the vendor's admission that "I realized that I wanted to design the hammock to be a tool to get more people introduced to spending time outdoors," it all is quite similar to ENO's marketing. They're selling lifestyle more than anything else.

Somebody buys this hammock, with no instructions on how to lay, and within minutes they'll probably say, "This is uncomfortable as all getout. Then they'll say, "Geez, my butt is cold. I wonder why that is?" And their next thought will probably be, "I just got ripped off. Lesson learned."

Can't speak for Humer91, but I enjoy hammocks and take any opportunity I have to tell other people how much I like them. Has nothing to do with me being a hammockforums member, just a hammock enthusiast. I got into hammocks from my brother in law who had his eno dn strung like a guitar string with his nylon slap straps. His interest got me interested, so I agree Humer91 that the more people enjoying hammocks the better.

As far as your scenario, there is another alternative. Someone buys this hammock, finds it uncomfortable and cold, then googles it and finds hammock forums where they can learn everything they need to know.

Strange how they researched ridgelines and cinch buckles and still show 0 degree hangs and bannana laying. Also why are they just using no name rope as cinch buckle loops, one would think after looking up srls theyd know what amsteel or zingit was. 40d ripstop to 450 pounds?

You know they are on here? You can not be into hammocks that much and not be on this forum. Come on ... Who is it?
