Do you use a UQ cover in wet weather?

I'm new to this all and recently got a AHE new river quilt and as it has began to get cold and snow is coming I got to wondering if many people get some kind of cover to protect their quiet from the elements?

Personally I don't. They are great and many folks swear by them. But I use my tarp and terrain to protect me and my gear from moisture. The Quilt fabric we use is a very high quality US made fabric with a very good DWR treatment on it to shed moisture should it get past your tarp.

Cold and wet is not a problem. Wind is the reason that I use an under quilt protector almost all the time. If you select a site carefully then you do not need one, but I often like to set up in an exposed site with great views.

I haven't drunk the UQP Kool-Aid yet. So far my 4-season tarp is doing fine keeping me dry and wind-free. I'm the type who doesn't buy something till I see the need for it.

I've wondered about that, actually... Do you think that a UQP and a 4-season tarp are effectively mutually exclusive? I've been tossing that question around in my head for awhile, but never saw fit to ask.

I use a UQP for a couple of reason. First is I am short so my UQ is close enough to the ground that I want a barrier between it and the ground. Second reason is wind/heat. I run about 7 to 10F warmer inside my HH if I use the UQP. I really notice a difference in wind if I can't get the terrain to accommodate wind blocking for me.

Got some silnylon for a tarp for my emergency set up to carry in the truck then switched to silpoly for the tarp, which is on order from Rip Stop by the Roll.

Will sew up peak beaks and an UQP from the silnylon instead.

If weight is not an issue why not have anything that might help?

Wind stealing heat is always an issue where I roam.

I usually/prefer to use a tyvek pod/sock with my UQ (alomg with my small Asym tarp drawn low/tight) - but I have used my UQP (wrapped around the hammock) to keep blowing rain/snow. It works but a pod/sock is better.
