    Hullo from Scotland

    Hi folks,
Newb from west of Scotland here with just 2 recent hangs under my belt. Have camped in tents all my years but having watched a lot of backpacking/canoeing vids on youtube over the past year the penny finally dropped that hammock camping would be fantastic. A recent backpacking trip where I could not find a decent pitch sealed the deal.
I was slightly nervous about my first hang as I am a front/side sleeper but after 5 minutes in the cosy and comfy hammock I was a happy man. I had a great sleep and woke up very happy that hammocking was going to work.
My current setup is a DD frontline Hammock and tarp. I have both summer and winter downbags and an exped down mat so that will need to do for now.
My second night i woke up at 5am with a very sore neck and eventually CBS. I then realised that my mat had slipped round and I had obviously been sleeping with my neck at a funny angle. If I had more experience I would have realised sooner and not had such a sore neck.
It certainly hasn't put me off and I am looking forward to my next trip.
From what I have seen so far this looks like a fantastic forum so I am delighted to join.
    Cheers.
A couple of photos from my first hang.

Appears you're off to a good start. Bet hanging in the pines shown in your second picture was enjoyable. Regarding your sore neck, are you using any sort of pillow? I've had good luck using one of those neck pillows common to airline travels except that I flip it backwards so it extends backwards up from my neck. There is some support but the two sides sort of cradle your head. Good luck

    Hi JSH,
Ha, well I did the first night but only remember using it when I fancied a lie on my side so didn't take it the 2nd time.
I probably used it more than I realised so will definitely take it the next time. It's a little cushtie travel pillow. Cheers!

Welcome. I just passed thru Glasgow several times - I never spent much time in the town. I'm glad you joined HF and am looking forward to more photos and seeing your hammock system come together.
Years ago I hiked the Dunoon/Firth of Clyde area. I love Scotland, the pubs and the fine country folks. I liked seeing the dogs in the pubs after their evening hikes.

    Hullo from Scotland

Thanks mbiramam, I have a goal to visit BC in my lifetime.

Thanks Craige, I don't know a soul that hammock camps here. When I say I'm hammock camping in November they think I'm crazy.

Hi oldpappy, that's a lovely welcome. I look forward to posting photos from future trips.
If you like the firth of Clyde area and hiking take a look at the below. It's a photo blog from when I did a summit camp on the Isle of Arran in July.

    Thanks everyone.

Beautiful country - thanks. I had forgot about the summer night never getting totally dark and the (too early for me) sunrises.
