    Hammock Fabric Question?

Just went to Wally World(aka Wal-Mart) and Picked up the $1/yrd Ripstop and I measured its width and its Only 51". I was hoping it would be 60" but its 51" and was wondering how much will this effect my hammock. I'm tall and Skinny at 6' and 150lbs. Any help is good help.
    Thanks for your time

You could try it. My narrowest was about 50" or so...it works ok, and I'm about 190 lbs. Start with 10' long and work your way down.

Just the guy I wanted to hear from. I just did a quick water test and it repelled water like sil nylon I'm not sure if this is a property of ripstop nylon ,polyester ripstop, or wally world mystery fabric. I got 4.37yrds so will that extra length make up for the narrowness of it?

If you put it up to your lips, can you suck air through it? If you can, it's breathable. If not, it's non-breathable and probably silnylon. You can still use sil for a hammock but it might get clammy in summer.

50" is fine for a hammock, especially if it's longer. Keep in mind that a longer hammock may require a longer tarp.

I can breath thru it. I currently have a 9'X9' sil tarp that I can use to cover my hammock. I'm just using it as a base camp hammock at the wilderness school I work at.

Sounds like DWR, but it is hard to say without seeing it. I like narrower hammocks. I was thinking of going below 50".

My current one is 50" before hemming, and I'm thinking about going narrower. To each his own

I like the wide hammocks. Mine are all the 60" stuff. I have a bunch of extra 1.9 untreated. I would be willing to trade if you want something wider.

A big man needs a big hammock. 60" is the way to go for me.
