Went to Wood Badge this weekend and slept in my hammock two nights for the first time! Perfect!
Now I need to figure out a rain fly. What have you all used?

Are you a hiker or a camper fuzzie? That makes a big difference in what tarp recommendations you'll get and the cost.
Trust nobody!
I am a neewbie too and I use the Claytor Diamond 10x13 ft. Good Value ($50.00, Free shipping), light, easy to pitch and carry. Pros: Good first tarp for most elective camping. (Going when weather forecast is good) And can handle most vertical rain showers. Cons:
Doesn't block wind driven rain like a larger, Cat or Rectangular tarp. Best protection is a large rectangular tarp (10x12, 11x11) enclosed with end doors. Most recommended of the large tarps are the Speer Winter Tarp (Good Value) or Warbonnet Superfly (With soon to be avail removable doors).

I'm a scouter, so we camp and hike. Most of the time, we are camping, but I like the idea of being a minimalist.
Does that help?

I did Wood Badge in 1994 (C-7L-94, Buffalo Patrol), what a great program! Our program was a 9-10 day session, we hiked in, camped, did all of the training sessions, & hiked out. I thoroughly enjoyed it, last time I had that much fun was when I was a kid at scout camp. We used wall tents with cots. It would have been much more comfortable with a hammock.
If you don't have a regular hammock tarp you can use just about any 8x10 or 10x12 tarp until you decide on a good quality tarp.
What kind of hammock do you have?
Do you have it set up with bug netting?

I'm working my tickets right now!!!
Go Eagles!!!
Look into the Sportmans Gear Guide 12x12 tarp. It's really cheap too. I've found this tarp to be perfect for scout camping. Compaired to your "typical" walmart tarp that most scouts put under or over their tents, the gear guide is much nicer. Weighs 2 pounds so it's good for your normal scout types of camping trips. (weekend, setting up dining-fly, staying put) Now if you want to teach the backpacking merit badge, you're gonna need to up grade to something light weight!!! This winter I'm helping teach at Outdoor Leader Training (ticket item) and I'll be showing them my gear guide tarp along with my hammock.

5 total, finished 3, still working on the last 2. Will finish at the end of Jan 2010 Some of my tickets are contingent on others, like when the Outdoor Leader Class is being taught and the Fall Camporee. I'm really looking forward to teaching (& helping others teach) LNT & hiking & backpacking to mostly cub scout adult leaders. You just would not believe some of the things they pack and then HAUL out into the woods!! I'm betting the farm that just about all of them have never even heard of camping hammocks!
hey TinaLouise, I was in the Eagle Patrol when I did my Woodbadge training (4 years ago, at the BSA high adventure camp in the BWCA, in the WINTER ). A couple of nights out under the stars in -20 F, now that's camping.
I never would have thought it possible at the time, but I've forgotten the song the patrols sing marching to meetings, calling out the various patrol names.
