Hey Stevie,
So are you a happy man? Tell your friends in the UK.
As for the Ridgerest, they are bulky but that can be managed if you are saying you don't have enough space in your backpack. The Restrest can be folded or rolled up pretty tight and attached to the pack by using
adjustable web straps. If you have a pack with a taco compression, the pad will fold up and fit nicely under the compression system. This photo shows how I pack my Ridgerest in my M.O.L.L.E gear.IMG_1280.jpg
The only reason I swear by my Ridgerest is because of the way it wraps around my body and feet while in the hammock. A smaller CCF pad will create more space between the pad and the side pockets. If you have stuffed your clothing and outerwear into those pockets for insulation, that space will allow more cold air to come through.
Also, the way the Rigderest is designed, with all the heat trapping ridges, it is very warm. I've been able to us just an overquilt in temps into the lower 20's. Once it drops into the teens or single digit temps, I use my down bag and temps in the hammock will hover in the 50's.
