    "Stretchiness" of Argon hammock...

I received my new 10 foot Argon last week and put an approximately 100 inch ridgeline on it. I had heard they stretched more than their PolyD counterparts but was surprised at the degree to which it stretched to. When hung at nearly the same height as i normally do in my 1.6 Argon Hammeck Netty (same material???), I dragged the ground. I was fine after I raised the straps on the trees but didn't expect quite so much stretch. Does the hammock eventually stop stretching so much or do you just compensate by hanging it highter? The hammock is very light and comfortable and, like all of Dutch's gear is extremely well made.

    Thanks for the help!

Could it be your suspension settling in ? I have a Argon hammock and do not notice anything radical

Could be. It was brand new as well and I'm still pretty wet behind the ears, myself. I'll try it out again tomorrow.

Those two hammocks are the exact same material. There might be variances in lengths and ridgelines.

There is no way the hammock material stretched that much to put you on the ground unless you were using a spandex blend.

More than likely, it was the suspension. Switch out the suspension from the old to the new and recheck. This may help you in comparing hammock to hammock with all else (suspension) being equal.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

My Argon does not stretch like that. It is "softer" (more give?) than my Poly-D which has a firmer feel. But neither stretch as you mentioned, compared on the same suspension and hang points used on both. P.S. Both are great, just different feel to each.

when I put new suspension on my Dutch Argon, I also scraped the ground on first use.
second time around and it was just like the old suspension

ie. there's a lot of give in new unused suspension

This weekend I hung my buddy's Dutch Argon hammock up next to my homemade taffeta (tablecloth) hammock. From the inside, the lay of the Argon hammock felt very similar to the taffeta and didn't stretch much... certainly not to the ground. In the picture you can see that the brown Argon hammock is less bulky than the blue taffeta hammock.

I also got to see a Dream Hammock made from 1.6 HyperD and that's the greatest material I've seen. I haven't seen Dutch's NylonD 1.6, but hopefully it's just as nice. I would encourage anyone to look at the "D" line of fabrics for a hammock over the Argon, but that's my personal preference.
