I think that Te-wa may have limited access to a computer right now. From his descriptions to me, it sounds like the hike in is very easy, around ~1.5 mile and more like a dirt road than a trail. I would think a fishing pole would be more handy than a set of hiking poles on this one. Of course, YMMV. Since the hike is easy I will probably pack along a lot more weight than usual too.

A few luxuries are definitely in order here. I think that Ang-a-rita's are going to be on the menu again. Concerning food, haven't had a chance to think about it much but something grilled does sound kind of nice. Hmmm... I may bring along some seasonings in case we hook some lunker trout down there too. I'll plan on bringing along a small grill of some kind.
Well it looks like we are definitely going to see lows down in the lower 20's that night. A great chance to try out that cold weather gear. A spare ccf pad along is always good insurance. Although, I ain't skeered much 'cause I'll be packing a new MW4.I'll also be bringing along my JRB 10x11 tarp this time. I'm also interested in checking out your new SWT. It looks like partly cloudy Sat nite. I hope it's clear enough to see some of the meteor showers.

Does anyone have the GPS coordinates for the trail head & where we will make camp? I have not been there before and might pull in after y'all start the hike. I just want to make sure I can find it. Also I have only been a mile or so down young road. Is it road condition suitable for a car? I'm still not sure if I will be able to spend the night but I will at least drive up for a day hike in and possibly a night hike out.
Hi Roadtorque. Here is a link to the trip description as posted on HikeArizona by our very own Te-wa. If you like, I can take along a GMRS radio, and we can talk you in when you arrive. With such a short hike, we should easily be able to communicate from camp to trailhead.
Directions to trail: From Payson head east on Hwy. 260 for 34 miles to the Young Rd. (young-heber hwy) Go south for exactly 3 miles to forest rd. 33 and turn left. Drive east on this well graded dirt road for 4.5 miles to Airplane Flat campground. At the east end of the camp, you see a fence followed by a path leading into the canyon. Very easy to find, however after a good snow you will need 4x4 to access this area.

anyone not familiar with the area of Fort McDowell, it is about 5 miles east of Shea Blvd/Fountain Hills on Highway 87. You will pass a stoplight leading into the casino grounds but you'll need to pass that one and turn left on the second stoplight, across the street from a gas station called "Ba-Ja"
Is there a total count for attendance?
Is the water up there safe to filter and drink or should I pack in enough to last me?
Good question! Does anyone know if we need to pack in water or can we obtain/treat water from the creek?
I can't say for sure but I'd be shocked if that water wasn't filterable.
