    First Night Tonight and Scared

Well I got my HH and I'm going to test it out tonight with a little stealth camping ... sorta*.

My fears are that it will be cold, I haven't really had time to figure out a good insulation yet and its predicted to go to 12*C (check my sig for approx to F) All I have is some blankets and a couple synthetic sleeping bags and some cozy fleece pjama pants.

    Will I survive?

Okay I'm not really that scared I'll only be like 50 paces away from home and able to hop into a nice warm bed pre heated by a beautiful girl but I would really like to sleep through the night.

    Thanks
    Kasuko

*It's stealth camping in the fact that it's on the other side of my townhouse's parking lot and owned by the apartment opposite my house.

No worries. You'll be fine with all those blankets and bags. It's just not what you'd want to use if you have to hike in.

    Have fun.

I have a 20 degree F down bag and made it through a 58 F degree night 2 weekends ago with absolutely no problem. As long as there is no wind you will be fine. I am a very cold sleeper.

I was warm and slept great. Like I said before though, even the slightest breeze can take all that comfort away.

You're preheated backup plan sounds great! I might not make it through a night in the woods if I know I can be in the bed with my woman in 45 seconds !

Well I kinda have to for both our sakes, I need to get the insulation right. We're going car camping this Monday and it's no longer a 45s trip home.

No worries. Lay on the bags and use the blankets like normal. Those are still pretty mild temps; you'll be surprised how warm you will be.

Whew, thank you. It was pretty chilly last night and all this talk about hammocks being cold got under my skin by the look of it.

Like you, I'm still getting my act together...I'll second Cannibal...I've been very comfortable putting a bag under me, and pulling a light quilt over me.

I improvised a top quilt by taking a twin-sized comforter and creating a footbox by using a few zip ties. Works pretty good.

I hope no one catches you stealth camping...running in cosy fleece jammies might be a little embarrasing!
    We would love pics though!

cannibal is right. with one sleeping bag under you, you should be just fine. i have been using a 3 oz synthetic yeti under me, and untill the last couple of nights when the wind picking up a lot, i just covered up with a light jacket. I haven't been using a tarp since the skys have been nice and clear. I am a warm sleeper though. the bag I am now using as a tq is a cheap 45 degree syn bag from walmart. I have been nice and toasty. temps have been in the low to mid fifties where I have been camping along the columbia river.
