    Well, that didn't work!

Bought one of these cheap-o hammock stands on eBay. 122" long is plenty when your ridge line is 107". Too bad it's only about 40" high. Now the question is, should I modify it, or just send it back? I'll probably modify it, since there aren't too many options for one that's taller.

Have you looked at the Tato Gear hammock stand kit? I don't think it is in the wild so to speak as they are just shipping out the orders from their kickstarter campaign, but they are an intriguing option.

I was looking at one of these on Craigslist, but just could pull the trigger. Can you post a picture of it with your hammock attached? Maybe we can brainstorm a modification for it.

You sag too much on these and end up resting on the ground. I did at least.

That's what I did. Slid a 1-1/4" pipe inside. If I did it again I would just extend the ends, not 45 up and across. But I had the pipe already so didn't cost me extra.

I'd be afraid to use this, but, to alter it, get extension bar, and put a couple dowels to hold the extension in. Also, do the same for both end posts, but, in my opinion, the stability would be next to nothing. In my opinion. I placed a couple of 4x4s in the back yard, to hang my hammock. They work just fine. I placed them at a slight outward angle, and are about 9 feet high above ground.

I saw one where a local muffler shop had bent pipe to extend vertically up from the end. It really looked neat and kept the overall length with int the original ball park.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I set up 4x4's in my back yard like Ironlung did. I actually set up three of them in a triangular pattern and they have worked well...we have had two hammocks at once and still haven't had them break. 4x4's do flex quite a bit though so if you do go that route you may want to put a rigid beam between them to take care of this issue. Gargoyle's link to the other thread is worth checking out. However, if you do decide to extend the pipes you may want to consider some type of guy line system to keep the pipes from flexing inward when you get in the hammock...just some thoughts.
