My dad smoked a pipe for years and I loved the smell. He's since quit (20+ yrs) and I never started. My only recommendatio would be sure you bring along some duct tape to repair any burn holes that may occur.

Now if Dutch could just come up with a titanium Hookah and Hookah Clips, then I would be really impressed!

I smoke cigarettes in my hennessy zip, I hang my head out and my smoking hand stays out at all times , unfortunately I do have a few burns but I easily fixed them with tenacious tape..

I'm a Brigham man myself. I enjoy a good smoke every now and then but I don't let my kids see me, so that's when I usually meander out into the woods with my hammock to get some quality quiet time. I smoke in my hammock, but only when I'm sitting in it. I tired a cigar one time laying down and the ash was falling into my face, so that kind of ended that one. Unless you've got some strange fire gnome out there with you, I would think the ash from a pipe wouldn't be too bad on the hammock.

Technically most synthetic hammock materials would be IFR (Inherently Flame Retardant). A couple of coals would likely just melt/burn through. That could eventually turn into a rip or tear. But I wouldn't be too worried about setting the hammock or tarp on fire. As long as it is not cotton...

Coffee and a smoke sitting propped up with a pillow in the hammock in the morn... yum yum... let the sparks fly.

I'm a Savinelli guy myself with Lane 1Q tobacco...great stuff there. Haven't smoked in the hammock yet but I'm sure I'll give it a try eventually.

I just keep an eye on the embers if it is windy out. I have used my pipe inside the bugnet once. It felt like a bad idea, but I luckily came out with the same amount of gear I went in with.

Ditto - I smoke cigars when camping and most times build a fire.

I never smoke next to or in my hammock set up - and my set up is never near the fire - and up wind if I can help it.

The arms and chest areas of my favorite camping shirt have tiny holes from both cigar and fire. Don't want that in any of my expensive gear.

Had a friend (still do) that liked to sleep next to the fire and pull a wool blanket over him. I got up one cold morning and went over to the fire to build it up. He was smoking like all get out. A spark had landed on the blanket about at his knees and burned out a pie size hole that was glowing on the edge and smoking. The quilt underneath was melting. I tapped his head, he gave me a irritated "way to early" look and then threw back the covers and jumped up with a load "AHHHHHHH, that hot!"

Camping with friends does have it's moments.
