    Looking at HH OverCover#2

I’m looking at a way to get down to lower temps with my HH ultralite Explorer, Hex rainfly 30D. I’ll be using a HG 20* one overfill Phoenix, 20* one overfill Burrow.
I see HH sells the OverCover #2. Anyone had experience with using one of these and if so how do you like it. Has it helped getting you down comfortably in lower temps. Pros cons?

I have one I use with my UL Explorer and I have enjoyed it. I would say when snow camping it has added about 10 degrees and I personally have not had any real condensation issues.
It makes getting in a little more work but I largely fixed that by putting a mini carabiner on the entry side cord. You should use the tie outs when using it.

How cold are you going to go? The over cover will add warmth to the air inside the hammock but if your going much below the temp rating of your UQ you will probably still get cold.
So if using a 20 degree UQ and planning to go colder than that I would add something under you as well.

I loved the OC when I had a HH, it worked well.

Give me stone silence said the deaf man,
    I didn't believe Sunday School.

I have used it for several overnights. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it certainly makes the hammock feel much more cramped, as you really lose any sense of tarp camping once you close yourself in. Anecdotally my experiences have been the same as others, that it increases the ambient temperature within the hammock but does nothing for CBS.

Ive used mine 1 time and it did increase the interior temp about 10 degrees as well. It was extremely windy the night I used it so it really helped cut the wind.

Thanks for the input. Looks like it’s good to have for windy conditions and maybe blowing rain. Probably wont take me down any further than my TQ and UQ temp ratings though.

It will help the TQ but since its only over you it wont help your UQ.. I always carry it when out snow camping it makes enough of a difference in comfort for me to make it worth it.
An UQ protector will also make a difference but not nearly as much. It doesn't take a lot to get a 20 degree UQ down into single digit temps.

Gary-R thanks very helpful. Have you tried a UQ protector? It may be worth a try for me I would like to get down to 5* on my TQ and UQ.

I sold my UQ protector, but I use a zero degree Quilt.. Most people I know just add a pad when it gets really cold. And wear stuff like fleece to help out.
There is no way to tell you what will work since each person is so different. Some people just are not affected the same way.. Best advice is over prepare and give it a shot.
