Ground set-up NX-250

O K, so I’m a couple of days late. For me, that’s right on time.

TENTING WITH A CLARK NX-250

Well the book says it can be done and they are correct. Do you want to?. I guess if there is NO other option then go for it.

I personally think that just using a ground cloth and the tarp set overhead would be a better option. The bugs may get at ya but,…… your choice.

As a tent, it is about like a coffin. Not much room at all. It is doable tho.

I followed the directions the first time and was a bit disappointed in the result. So, I made 4 loops out of small line and put them on the tabs. That helped quite a bit.

The one thing I would recommend while setting the hammock up this way is. Peg the 4 tabs first. Then string the peak lines for each end. The last thing is to put the stakes at the gather points for each end.

Using the extra loops on the tabs allows you to get a “bathtub” effect and TO ME seamed to work a bit better. In that set up, there was no problem zipping the shields.

What's that weird looking stake holding the rope??!!!
One thing I do when I test my gear is to use the things that I would have with me while backpacking. When I tested my tropical, I used my hiking poles at each end to hold the rope. What I figure is IF I ever had to go to ground, I want to already know if the gear I have with me is gonna be enough. Treking poles work just fine. And like you found out, going to ground is not fun, not fun at all. But very doable.
Just read that you followed directions, I don't even remember seeing any directions!!! Nice job though.

Thanks for posting your setup...

If I'd have to go to the ground with my Clark, I would use the tarp as that primary shelter and use the hammock base and netting as a mosquito bivy bag with the netting supported like you did but with a ridgeline supporting the tarp.

Since I canoe camp and don't worry about weight, I just cut some wood to run the lines over. Set it on top of an alumimum pole and done.

I do not have treaking poles.
