Hi MoHIker79, there certainly is. There's water at the trailhead as well but it's a pond and could have a lot of algae.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm really looking forward to this one. I haven't been out at all this summer due to business travel and miss it. I did get to hang at my sister's house while visiting her in New York but that's not the same as getting out there aways!

    Thanks for the info, Gideon!
I also haven't been out since early in the year (Jan?), so I'm also looking forward to this trip.

You got me thinking; if I can swing an extra day off, I think I'll drive down on Thursday as well. Would be a relaxing way of easing into the weekend! I'll confirm beforehand but for now, I'm planning on it.

We live up the road from you! Kearney now, we were in Liberty for 10 Years or so. I don't know how work is going to play out or School for the kids yet, but we may roll down Thursday as well.

I did this loop a couple of years ago I think. I recall water being decent, the sites exquisite, the wildlife abundant.

Either Gideon or Disco, I can't remember which, can confirm this! There are Bears in that area. I am not sure how many, but one is enough. I recall seeing a couple of trees with some Bear loving Marks on them. I think I even have a Picture somewhere. So practice Bear Safety.... Hang your food, don't go to bed smelling like a bear burrito in your hammock etc...

This past week I got to teach my wife about Bear Safety, I even saw one. It was an exciting week. I gave her 5 Wonderful Days on the SHT. Pretty sure after day one, she had exhausted the book of mean names to call me. Day 1 was Highway 1 to Section 13. Just 8.5ish miles of up and down!

Anyhow guys, it's gonna be great to see you all!

    Anyone hear from Hairbear?

Edit: I guess Bears were covered, I just read all of the other posts. Looks like a good sized group!

MO > Irish Wilderness hang - September 18-20

This is an unrelated question but pertains to Missouri hammocking. I was researching camping at piney creek wilderness (part of mark twain) near Shell Knob and saw under restrictions "never tie stock directly to trees" ...what does that mean?

That means don't tie your horse to a tree. Use something like a highline instead, so the tree is not damaged.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
