Nashville TN area

An intro about self. I live in the Nashville area for the last 25 yrs, work brought my family and I down from the lovely commonwealth; Pennsylvania. I have enjoyed being outdoors for years, you could say that a bad day outdoors is better than a good day indoors. My wife is the same.
We have retired mostly due to health concerns, we get by. We don't own a tent nor a hammock, but a hammock seems to be more comfortable than the hard cold ground and it is something different.
I am here to learn, make friends and get into trouble.

Welcome! I drive to TN from TX just to backpack. You are blessed with many options not far from you. My favorite is the Savage Gulf. It stays fairly cool down in it during the hot summer too. Cool-ER that the rim temps anyway...

Same here. Work brought me to Nashville about 29 years ago. I just hiked through Pennsylvania on the AT year before last or so. Oh those rocks!

You've come to a great site and a great geographical area too. I'd encourage you to watch for Neo's "hangs" and outings. The next one is in about four weeks. Hammockers sitting around eating, yakking about their hammocks, and eating. I think I covered it all. LOL Anyway, a great way to eye-ball gear and hear from a lot of "horse's mouths" and maybe even a horse's backside the low-down on hammocking and gear.

Also, watch for my Meetup.com group, Nashville Backpacker. We meet monthly and hike about 2 or 3 times a month and several of us are hammockers. You are welcome to join us. Many of us (and Neo's group too, we over-lap) are willing to loan gear to newbies who want to try hammock hanging. We have a over-night hike at the Big South Fork next weekend.
