Ripstop 1.9?

Both were sold to me as 1.9 ripstop material.but they are clearly 2 different kinds of material.i am lookn for the softer thicker 1.9 ripstop.i thinner plasticly kind seems to weak to use for a hammock.

Its not to weak...some poeple have used .69 ounce fabrics with some care.

The fabric in the picture looks like canvas material to me - probably cotton. That would make it much heavier and probably not as strong as the "plasticly" feeling ripstop. It would likely rot out as well.

The beauty of ripstop is its incredible strength to weight ratio. 1.9 ripstop is very strong. I would trust it a lot further than canvas.

If you want a heavier material, you might want to consider taffeta. Probably saving it from its intended life as a prom dress too.

Ya. That definitely looks like a cotton ripstop. You want nylon, or possibly polyester.

I just built my newest with 1.6oz hyperD ripstop from ripstopbytheroll. I can not recommend it enough.

I don't think either of those are nylon or polyester ripstop like you want for a camping hammock.

I read the posts,watched alot of videos and in the process watched all of shugs vids,and i didnt learn anything cus i orderd from ebay and not from a highly recommended ridstop vender and i have paid a price.i am humbled and will be placing an order for the real thing.

It happens to the best of us. The vendors on here are all highly reputable with excellent products. I'd use any of them without hesitation, and the prices are really pretty good on materials. Again I highly reccomend the hyperD for a hammock!

i have learned that one material is poly ripstop and the other is cotton blend ripstop.both were listed as hammock material.i pretty much destroyed this material learning to sew it but will use it for stuff sacks and such even tho i have read its to heavy of a material for that. i really love the vender list here on hammockfourms so many good quality products and advice that its over whelming at times.
