I'm a righty and sleep on my right side. The decision to have a lefty foot of was based on where my knees are. When laying on the right side my knees have more room in a bent position with the lefty foot box. That's why my hammocks are made that way. Also makes my face position upwards rather then down towards the valley of the hammock when laying on my side.

Around the time that Tom Hennessy was bringing the first non-GI integrated bug net hammocks to market. I can only assume that he's right-handed: lying head-left allows easier use of your right hand in the hammock, as that shoulder and arm aren't pushed up against the fabric as hard as your left.

That being said, (I think that) every integral net hammock maker on the market but Hennessy these days offers an option for head-right/feet-left. And the non-integral net hammocks will let you lie in any direction you want.

    Hope it helps!

Lefty here, and have always slept head right, feet left. It would be interesting to sample and see if there is a correlation between hand dominance and lay preference (not volunteering!!!!)

I always go head right. This simply makes cooking and reaching out while in the hammock more comfortable for me (right handed).

My first real "camping hammock" was a Hennessy. I got used to the head left lay, and now automatically start out that way with every hammock. I do switch around on non-asymetrical though... heck, even dedicated head left sometimes I switch to head right. I just lay whichever way is most comfortable.

I skate, skim, surf and snowboard left foot front. Maybe that's a contributor to starting out head left in a hammy?

I'm left handed and prefer feet left for my full time nightly hammock.

But when I camp I always lay feet right, just to rough it a little.

You're all wrong ... and guilty of murdering the English language, to boot. A "lay" is something entirely different. For some, I guess "traditional" would have meant "missionary".

Not all, though I will admit that my English is significantly less-than-perfect. You'll notice that I use the term "lie" in my post above, even if I did start it with a fragment...

FWIW - without actually pulling the old orders, 75- 80% of the orders I receive are Head Left.

BTW - I'm an odd one too!
    It'll be alright Friday!
