I made the same point in the planning thread for Mt Rogers 2 years ago. The consensus seemed to be that the Mt Rogers area was the best for the widest range of members, though. It wasn't too far south to draw the mid-atlantic members, nor too far north to be a problem for the southern state members.

I don't know if that's still the consensus, but it seems reasonable to me.

I'll bring some hot dog or brats. There is never a shortage of food at these hang outs.

    BTW Doctari,

I will help keep a list of who is bringing what in your first post. I will also add direction and other pertinent info as needed.

We could try having someone talk to the rangers at Greyson Highlands State Park (GHSP) about the group site or another part of the camp ground, but I'm thinking that all the facilities are "flush toilets" & are winterized (dry) that time of year.
    Wouldn't hurt to ask though.

Old Orchard is a nice spot. I did some checking into that the first year.
    Good points I remember...
Not to far to hike in, though there's a fair amount of "up hill".
The area Rangers said that they DO plow that road if snow accumulates, but not the parking areas. Remember that if there were to be enough snow to plow, some of the early folks may need to bring a couple snow shovels to clear the "snow bank" left by the plow so cars can enter the parking areas.

    Concerns...
If the extra parking down the road is used, we might want to be sure no one has a problem w/ us using them.
Also, if there has been road plowing, I don't think walking the road from one parking area to another would be the best idea (not much of a good way to get off the road if some over confident driver comes barreling down the road), so I wonder if there are trails from one parking area to another? I'm pretty sure that different trails from each parking area can be taken in & will connect before Old Orchard, but I haven't got the map out yet.

    Just a few thoughts.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Does anyone know someone they could contact in reference to using the campground? Anybody want to volunteer to do so?

I'll bring thirty pounds of fresh bread again. Someone find some venison bacon...

I'm not going on the Sat afternoon hike because the food's all gone when you return!

It would probably be more effective if someone important...like a moderator called.

Besides...I'm like Happy Camper...I don't decide if I'm going til I see if the weather is something short of a blizzard!
Gentle raindrops and mighty oceans...neither can exist without the other.

I have missed this hang due to last minute hang ups with work, 2 years running.
I am NOT missing this year!!!!!!!!!! The second that this date is firm I am booking the time off. Set in stone. Team EHKO will be in full attendance, mark my words!

Canadian beer for anyone kind enough to meet & guide us from the parking area.
Heated JRB winter hut will be deployed for any thin skins needing a place to warm up.
But you may have to suffer our Guitar, violin, harmonica, and vocals (all done badly)

Turk + 2 will vote this poll with majority consensus
