After seeing the HF Event Calendar entry for this hang, I understand some of the confusion....

Just as I was going outside to write my tag number for the permit to enter the Tram Trail, I got a call from Frostproof! It was the ranger. She said there is a kiosk a bit past Tram Trail rd. Might be Schoolbus Road. She said it's not far.

FYI Here's the ranger phone number: 863-635-8589

    Is anyone taking a stove?

Let me know if I should bring my largish one-burner Coleman stove and 2 (?) green 1lb propane canisters.

Also, 4 (?) contractor trash bags?

My lightweight non-stick pan diameter is 14.5 " at top and 10.5" at bottom; 3.5" deep. Will also have wooden utensil. The can looks larger in the photo.

Sandy, I don't believe the stove will be necessary. The grits and MM are cooked in the D.O.s over charcoal.

I'll be arriving between 11:00 and 12:00 Friday morning. Anyone arriving at about that time frame can leave their vehicles out at one of the parking areas along School Bus Rd. and my wife will shuttle us into Lake Godwin. This may reduce the amount of vehicles at the lake. PM me if it looks like you maybe interested.

    Entrance, roads, and parking

Entrance: Just to remind everyone... the entrance fee is $2/person/day. If you are parking then make sure you stop at one of the entrance boxes (north or south end of School Bus road). Take out an envelope (they are in the bottom slits but sometimes you need to dig to find them or get them out), put your name/dates/etc on the envelope and put in your money. Tear off the portion that you hang from your rearview mirror then put the envelope with your money into the upper slots on the entrance box. If you are getting dropped off then you can give me the money if you don't feel like digging for an envelope.

Roads: We have had a lot more rain and our equipment and rangers have been dragged away to other projects so our roads are not in the best shape. For those taking the Tram road... drive careful. I drove down it today and it was in the middle of getting some repairs and I don't think I'll be able to make it down there again before our event. School Bus road has some sloppy/damaged areas but if you drive carefully you should be fine. Lake Godwin road has some deep holes that still haven't dried up enough for us to work on the road. If you aren't in a truck then don't let much of your vehicle go into the big holes. Stay as far to your right (as you are driving in) as you can so your left side tires don't go too deep. It has a good solid bottom so you won't get stuck but it might be too deep for your vehicle.

Parking: Don't block any service roads... ever. I don't think we'll have too much trouble with parking if everyone spreads out as much as possible. Don't park too far off the road (it's best to only park in a spot where you can keep your tires on one side or the other of your car on the edge of the road).

For the Tram road gang I put some new orange flagging on some brush on both sides of the road so once you enter Polk county while driving east on 64 start looking to your left for the flagging. Go through the pipe gate, lock it behind you, and then drive carefully down the road for about 4 miles. Where the road appears to end (I put more orange flagging there) there is lots of good parking but the road does continue if you turn right... but I would recommend that you not go to the end unless you have 4 WD. It's only about 1/4 mile to the end of the road when you are heading due north. I put some flagging on the sign at the end of the north/south portion of the road. You will either want to follow the washed out road due west from there (that is the way we went in the first time we camped there) or you can go a little bit farther due north on that service road (we're talking hiking now) and catch the blue trail to your left. If you've got questions give me a holler

    Any questions?

Also... for the Tram road folks. I talked to our law enforcement officer and he said you didn't need to call him when you are entering the gate.

That's Jeanne... our staff assistant. I asked her to contact everyone to get the missing information for the permits. On Fridays she is usually gone by noon or 1 and most other folks are out on the forest working so don't plan to get through to anyone on Friday afternoons

How many people are scheduled to camp at Creekside?

I ask because this may interfere with us parking at the kiosk to save room at Lake Godwin.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
