Tying a Hennessy

This is the way I tie my Hennessys. I tie the head end using the tree huggers and the recommended figure eight knot. I then move to the foot end and again using the tree huggers I pull the hammock as tight as I can and secure it with a figure eight knot. Which does raise a question. My question is, I am doing any damage (none that I have noticed) or is this the proper way to put my hammocks up?

That's what I've been doing all along with mine. I find that if I don't get a LOT of tension on it when I hang, the ridgeline is pretty much useless for hanging stuff...and I've got bugnet all over my face.

If somebody else has a better suggestion, I'm all ears!

Works for me...sometimes I even retension it after I sit in it an minute to remove the excess sag...

That's how I do it, too. Agree w/ blackbishop about the ridgeline, too - not enough tension and the bug net hangs too low.

When I set mine up I usually tighten it so it is tight. I have never really pulled on it hard to have it as tight as I can get it. Then I sit in it like a chair to have it settle. Then instead of tightening it again if it is to low to the ground I just slide the tree huggers up the tree a little. When I set my hammock up I never wrapped my tree huggers around the tree a second time, so this makes it easier to slide them up the tree.

Thanks guys I was worried that I may be over tensioning my hammocks. When I do pull it tight I am pulling pretty hard. I have found that by doing it this way it stays put. After I get it up I do get in and lay in it for a bit and it still is tight. I have yet to spend a night in either of my hammocks but hope to soon now that my No Sniveller is ordered.

just remember (at least with the hennessys-i can't vouch for any others) that the hammock itself will stretch the first couple times you use it... you'll go to sleep fine, and wake up sagging... it's not you. it's just the fabric... after a couple more nights, it will have maxed out and won't stretch any more...

Yea I was expecting that to happen. Hopefully with me setting it up and toying around with it I will have stretched it pretty good by the time I get to sleep in it.

Mine was a little stretched when I got it - the guy who sold it to me on Ebay had used it a few times. Why he didn't like it, I'll never know.

Anyway, I expected it to stretch, so I went ahead and stretched it as much as I could myself. I hung it, tightened the hell out of it, then layed in it for 30 mins - 1 hr. Then get up, retighten, and repeat. Keep going until it stops noticeably stretching. I haven't seen any significant stretch since.

What about the ropes? Somebody on one of the BGT reviews complained about the "memory" in the ropes. The ropes would stretch, but then when he got out to tighten, the rope would return to the same tension as before entering the hammock. Do the ropes ever stop stretching?
