I just bought a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro, my first hammock. I had some nice weather and a little time today and tried a little test hang in the yard. I noticed a small, pin prick hole in the bottom of the material. Is this something that can become a major rip and dump me on my butt in the middle of the night? I guess I'm asking should I contact Grand Trunk for a replacement or is this nothing to be concerned about? Thanks for all your help.
If the hole is in an area that is supporting your weight I would contact them. I would not trust the hammock.
Providing them with a picture will help. Are you sure you did not make this hole?
Clipped on pocket knife, keys clipped to belt are two items that have been known to poke a hole in hammock fabric.
I know for a fact that I did not make it. I was just wearing shorts with nothing in or clipped on my pockets. As I said it is a pin prick. I tried a pic but the camera would not focus on it. It is roughly at knee level, based on my first test hang.
I would exchange it. A new hammock should have no holes. Unless the threads just moved a bit - in that case just move them back.
If you just bought it take it back where you bought it and exchange it for another one. Grand trunk has good customer service if you end up having to contact them. I had to do that with my skeeter beeter pro and you will have to provide pictures of the issue.
