No worries. I know the remarks were made in jest. I just wanted to make sure anyone else reading them understood the rules.

Because some sellers ask the buyer to pay the fees, I checked on that. Apparently asking buyers to pay finance fees is contrary to TOS on eBAY, not HF. And asking the buyer to pay fees might be against TOS for some credit cards, but not Paypal. So it is okay for a HF seller using PayPal to ask a buyer to pay fees. But why make it mathematically complicated like that?

I recently saw one sale where the seller was asking for $130 plus 4% Paypal fees. First, Paypal fees are only 3% (actually 3% + 30 cents). And second, why not just advertise the item Shipped CONUSA for $135? It's within pennies of the same amount and eliminates all the math.

As a "sales technique" it immediately takes the focus off the item for sale and changes it to an exercise in policy research and arithmetic.

I believe using 'friends and family' to buy 'goods and services' is against the TOS for PayPal. If you are selling something, there is no 'friends and family' so there should be no 'F & F or + 4%'. Using 'F & F' for goods also removes all protections for the buyer if the product doesn't arrive or is not as advertised.

Just to be clear, while it may or may not be against PayPal TOS (I don't speak for PayPal so can't say) it is against the HF TOS to request payment for items or to pay for items using "friends/family" option in PayPal. This is a cut/paste from HF TOS.

    H. No 'I'm sending money to family or friends' payments are allowed.

If you would like to review the entire TOS there is a link in my signature.

It is a good question about shipping. If you send in quantity then you can get a fedex or ups account. They discount based on performance. For me I use USPS. I suggest you know your options. I sent an envelope last week just over 13 oz in weight. Priority mail was just 3 cents more expensive than 6 day shipping.
