Are there any events that happen in the mid-west?

I'm seeing a lot of activities and going ons that happen on the east/south east side of the U.S. since the AT is located there. Are there any hanger clubs or groups that are located in the middle states like Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Iowa, or Illinois that host events? I would really like to go to some of the events I see happening but most are over 10 hours away by car and with my work schedule makes it impossible to attend.

I'm not afraid to host one with help.

This is probably the closest one at the moment: Northern Hang. It would be a pretty long drive from Missouri though. It's a long drive for me too(but I'm not going to miss it!).

If you had one in Missouri I'd be interested. Should be mild weather in the fall/winter and I hear the Ozarks are real nice.

Defiantly one in Missouri would be great... I would attend, if it doesn't interfere with the other family stuff.

Thanks for the offer. I have a work schedule similar to a fireman's shift. 2 days on 2 days off then every other weekend off. Let me look at the calender and see what weekends are still open.
Myself and some buds of mine do a winter float trip in February/March on the Jacks Fork river if the water is still flowing or the Current River and with all the rain this year that shouldn't be a problem. October in the Missouri Ozarks is pretty spectacular and if canoe/kayak floating is not your thing then a hiking trip on one of the many loop trails like the Berryman Trail or the Ridge Runner Trail or one of the other dozen trails/wilderness areas located within the Mark Twain National Forest are all options.
Now my knees aren't what they used to be so whatever the plan it would need to be fairly tame since this would be more of an event and not a test of endurance.
Got a few ideas rolling around in the ole noggin and will throw them out for group approval soon.

I'll probably host some on the front range of the Colorado Rockies in the Feb-Mar timeframe. You'd have to drive all the way across Kansas (zzzzzzzz....) but you could get a true winter camping experience at 9000'.

That sounds awesome. I've done some camping up in the R.M.National Park and got a buddy that lives in Denver. Unfortunately it will have to wait until the spring/early summer before I could do anything like that. But I never say never....stranger things have happened.

Count me in (depending on the schedule of course).

Preacherman and I set one up in northern Arkansas a while back. Most of the folks bailed at the last minute, but those who made it had a great time.

And also thanks for the offer of the Rockies Jeff; but my "somewhere well past middle aged but don't call me old" bones just don't seem to tolerate the cold even at my altitude -- much less yours

Now if you want to talk about a trip to the Rockies in late spring...THAT would be great!

I'd also be interested in getting together with others in the midwest region for weekend outings... I'd be interested in activities combining hammock camping with bicycling, kayaking, canoeing or hiking...
