Why is my whoopie not holding?

I've used whoopies and UCR's for quite awhile (never made my own, however).

Well I have an unused set (that I picked up from another HF'er who made them) made from dynaglide. Just now I went outside and larksheaded them onto spliced loops (dynaglide also) which were on my hammock. When I load the hammock w/my skinny butt, the bury doesn't hold - sometimes the head end slides, sometimes the foot.

I've milked the bury tight, checked and re-checked, to no avail. The bury is about 5.5", which should be sufficient, from what I gather.

Whatcha think? Please tell me I just missed the obvious - I have daughters so I no longer have any pride.

    Thank you for the help.

The adjustable bury is 5.5 inches? That seems about 3.5 inches too short. The fixed loop should probably have a 6" bury and the adjustable 9 inches.

I am not 100% sure but the bury seems very short, especially on dyno. its very slippery to begin with
on amsteel I like a min of about 8",but prefer 10"

I also think your bury may be to short. I made some 7/64" amsteel whoopies not to long ago with 10" bury.
But Dynaglide I'm not sure about. Maybe this old post will help.

Here's a post where Opie made Dynaglide whoopies with a 9" adjustable bury.

I am pretty light, but I like 6 to 8 inch on my whoopies and 11 or 12 on my UCR's for Dynaglide for the adjustable portion and 5 or 6 on the locked Brummel. I have tried shorter buries but had slippage and I am way under 200#.

Well I was using this old chart so that's why I thought it was long enough!

(It won't let me copy & paste) but it said 5.79" for Dynaglide whoopies. Mine is actually 6" upon measuring.

I trust the braintrust here! Thanks folks.

    Can these whoopies be salvaged?

Sure they can be salvaged. Cut off the back splice, pull the adjustable loop out of the bury then resplice allowing for a longer bury. Once the adjustable loop is done redo the back slice to prevent the adjustable loop from being pulled out of the bury. You'll only lose a few inches in overall length.

Yes they can be saved .I just pulled a bury back to install dutch hook last weekend. There are some good youtube videos that show how to make whoopee slings. If I can do it I'm sure you can also.
Check out Hoots video. He makes it easy to do.

Yes,9inches through 12inches will be fine. Better too much than not enough.
