    BackpackGearTest.org review of Streamliner DL

Hey guys, I just posted my owner review of the Streamliner DL to the BGT site:

    http://www.backpackgeartest.org/revi...0Kurt%20Papke/

Note that this is an Owner Review - I purchased the hammock, it was not supplied by SLD for testing/review purposes.

Let me know if there's anything important you think I missed.

    Best regards,
    --Kurt

Very informative! I was not even aware of that vendor. I just spent xmas and new years in Tucson and spent a lot of time hiking in the foothills and dreaming of going further and hammock camping. The pics were great! Thanks.

Other than a HH Explorer Deluxe, the SLD Streamliner DL is the only hammock that I've owned. I bought it mainly for the catenary cuts on the sides. I didn't realize that it was harder to get a diagonal lay in it because of the cuts but that explains why I always end up straight in the morning. I've also had a really hard time getting my pad to stay diagonal even with the double layer.

I definitely agree that the cuts also create a lot of pressure under your legs when you're getting in and out of the hammock. I sometimes find that my legs start to hurt even in the time it takes me to put my shoes on in the morning.

However, the HUGE selling feature of the cuts is the added visibility so I'm glad you mentioned that. I love being able to see out the side without moving fabric out of the way. I'm not sure if it's worth the downsides of the cuts but it certainly is nice.

Thanks for the review. It gave me some things to think about.

I sit near the edge and slide in and reverse the process to get out. The former being easier than the latter.

Yep, no mention of the sides being rigid while getting in and out of the hammock is a bit of a flaw in the review. The comment about others asking for cat cuts on one side to allow a sitting position is a little vague - I know what he's talking about, but I doubt someone with no other knowledge of the Streamliner would know.

I guess the cat cuts make for more wall pressure, thus seemingly less room to get diagonal? All I know is that I asked Jared to make the hammock wider and he was able to get another 4" or so, and that has made a beneficial difference over what I originally experienced. You gotta love dealing with Jared!

p.s. mine is also an 11' marpat, just like in the review; except that Jared made a beer holder for me - works quite well!!
