    ripped rope channel?

hey hammock users, i got my first hammock in the mail today, a grand trunk ultra-light, not knowing if this is what i needed i didnt buy any special suspension just every thing that came with it. i was fiddling with the rope that was tied to the rope channel and i retied it, not like it was originally. i doubled over paracord and tied it to two tree's and as i got in, the rope in the channel had come undone and the channel has about 5 ripped holes in it.

can someone explain why this happened?
on amazon the weight limit claimed to be 200 lbs and i myself weigh 205

    Picts would help.
Why did you decide to take the hammock apart and not put it back together as designed?

Paracord is very stretchy and not recommended for any part of a hammock kit.

Suspension of the hammock would be considered a "Critical Load". This is the part of Hammock hanging where you want the best components.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Looks like you didnt cinch it up good, or if the kjow wasnt tight as it was giving way the friction ripped as it went. most of the cottage vendors do the gathered end with the channel, but then run the line behind the channel with either a zip tie or the continuous loop running thru. So when you apply weight its got the who amount pulling on the entire hammock length. This then will but up to the buried part to prevent the whole thing from slipping thru. I will see if I can take some pics.

Well I would not use the channel anymore since the material has been compromised.
You could checkout the DIY section on how to make a gathered end hammock and use one of those methods
to re-attach the line that came with the hammock.

In all honesty at 205# you really should be using a hammock made from at least a single layer of 1.5, 1.7, or 1.9 ripstop nylon.

It looks like this is only a 20 buck hammock so you are not out much.
