Way back when I first joined HF my goal was to learn about making gear. At the time there wasn't much gear available and if you wanted premium gear you had to make it. There was all kinds of excitement from the likes of Griz, Warbonnetguy, Black Bishop, TeeDee and such. There was a great free discussion of how to make gear and what materials to use. The goal was to make the coolest gear around. I entered contests like the Vintage hammock contest that I was very excited to win and created one of my proudest builds, the Bridgeskin.
Now it is many years later and I want to give back with getting others into DIYing. With all the terrific vendors these days it is too easy to give your visa and wind up with a tarp, hammock, or quilt. There is something to be said about saying "I designed and made this". I want to give a new Singer sewing machine delivered to you door along with all the supplies for you to DIY your on hammock from my site. The sewing machine will be SINGER 2259 Tradition Easy-to-Use Free-Arm 19-Stitch Sewing Machine which is a good solid sewing machine delivered to your door. But I also want to send the DIY supplies of your choice from my site to build your hammock. All I need is a wish list of materials needed to make your DIY hammock. Don't leave anything out, from amsteel, to webbing, to hardware, to bugnetting, to thread, to choice of type of fabrics and colors. I will add a zipper if needed and also throw in some ARGON sil to make a stuff sack. I want to know your dream list for making a hammock and I will supply it free along with the new Singer sewing machine. There is absolutely no obligation and the winner will be picked from random by my 8 year old daughter (who doesn't like mean people btw). Raffle will run until February 23rd at which time the winner will be chosen and announced. To enter...
1. Describe you idea.
2. Post a materials list from my site
Example
I would like a cam NylonD 1.6 11 foot hammock. I want a black whoopee hooks suspension with camo 4 foot huggers and it should have Fronkey style bugnet and sew on quilt hooks.
4 yards of camo NylonD 1.6
12 feet of camo webbing
30 feet of black amsteel
spool of black thread
whoopie hooks
8 yards of Nano no see um
10 feet of lash it
4 mini cord locks
splicing needles
10 inch loop turner
10 feet of 3/32 shock cord.
4 sew on quilt hooks.
I would love to see some innovation but a plain hammock is fine. There is no obligation....except pics or it didn't happen.
