    Legs slipping out

I'm experimenting with my first hammock. Previously, I borrowed a friend's WBBB, which, since it was enclosed and had a sewn in foot box, gave me no problem with legs slipping out. In my hammock now, since it's a simple Byer Traveller Lite with no enclosure or bug net, I have a slipping problem. If I just lie in it, with my legs in a 4 shape (one leg bent), I stay in ok. If I throw on my mummy bag as a top quilt and stick my feet in the bottom as a foot box, the mummy bag slips on the hammock fabric and it's pretty hard to keep my entire legs from slipping right out when I lay diagonally. Then, when I threw a walmart blue pad in the hammock, both the pad and the bag were near impossible to keep from slipping out and having my legs dangle out of the hammock.

Has anyone else had their legs slip right out? What suggestions do you have?

A large portion of the problem that you're encountering is caused by the dimensions of the hammock, not the lack of a net. Yes, a net would keep your feet in--unless you ripped the net, which is possible with an hammock that size.

The Byer Traveller Lite site gives dimensions of 54" x 106". That's 8'10" long. Your friend's WBBB is 120" long by 58" wide. I find that anything smaller than 11' x 56" wide is significantly less comfortable than a larger hammock.

My suggestion is to spend $30 and get a simple 11' long x 58" wide gathered end from Dutch. It'll make all of the difference in comfort.

I think you're right. I do feel like there's not enough fabric to hold me in comfortably. I'll get a bigger one and save this one primarily for my wife or kids.

Depending on how comfortable you are modifying your gear you might try Knotty's side-stretch mod.

I had the same problem...then my next hammock w/o a net included the knotty mod. Problem solved.

I am almost 6'2" and have no problem in my WBBB, but my 11' Dutch hammock will sometimes let my feet out. I have learned to grab the fabric and pull up to take the slack out on the right side (foot side) of the hammock when I change positions. I usually happens when I am on my left side an go back to being on my back.

I'm going to try the knotty mod and see how that works.

You may already be doing this but most people suggest hanging the foot end of your hammock 10" to 12" higher than the head end. This will in effect help to keep your feet a little farther from the gathered end of the hammock where there is more fabric room for them.

Or you could just eliminate all questions and just get yourself a WBBB.

I have a Bayer easy traveler and I constantly had a problem with my feet slipping out. Especially if I used...a foam pad! Your issue is the hammock. Mines really comfortable sans bedding, but I fight with keeping anything in if I try to sleep in mine. Hammock is two short and too narrow. If you tried a warbonnet and liked it, I'd get one of those.

Another reason I always use my hammock with an integrated bugnet.
