I think the issue may have just been finishing. I have some of the original speed hooks, and there is a decent burr in the holes. As fine as the fibers are on amsteel, it doesn't take much effort with anything that has an edge on it to catch those fibers, especially when you add human weight and hammock forces into the equation.

I think a good polishing of the holes will help considerably, if not get rid of the fraying issue. I just haven't gotten around to it since I have so many other suspensions.

I am surprised to these those internal ridges from laser cutting, which I assume is the way they are cut

I have done some extra polishing on all parts of the double hammock whoopie hooks I am currently using for speed hooks. In addition I also take the tail of the suspension line and go back through the continuous loop and back over the top of the SH knot a couple of times to take stress off the amsteel in the hole. Not to mention the fact that I only weigh 145 pounds. To be honest I have not noticed any fraying in my amsteel. That's why I am totally comfortable using that set-up. Besides, falling a couple of feet while on a fully inflated down mat is a small risk compared to some of the other hazards I face on some of my backpacking trips.

I never really paid attention to this thread or even Speed Hooks in general. But something simple and easy like this could be the thing that makes we switch from straps/buckles.

    Waiting patiently...

    Speed Hooks 2.0?

The SH2.0 works great, even in the snow!

Whoever slept in that green A frame tent looks like they had a bit of a rough night.

Those who choose to sleep on the ground probably like having it rough.

I learned a few things that night... I went to sleep in a light drizzle with my tarp in a low porch mode. I woke up exactly one hour later when my tarp collapsed catastrophically on that side. I rolled out from under it and my eyes just about popped out of my head when I saw an inch of wet snow on everything.

I went to restake my tarp on that side and instantly lost two stakes in the snow.

I woke up at 3am with my tarp touching my hammock on both sides. Lots of wet snow eased the stakes out of the ground on both sides. If only I had used the mid-panel tieouts...

This Arizona boy learned several lessons that night.
