    To cold? Planning a winterhang

Hello fellow hangers... I'm planning a winterhang and I need some assistance from you guys with experience.

I'm going out sometime in the 2 first weeks in Januari when the sea trout is legal to fish again, so the spot will be at the Swedish south coast, might be windy, not much snow, we dont get much down here in the southern parts.
Temperature might go down to about 10-14* F.... But with some reservation, it MIGHT get colder and snowstorms has occurred before so I can't be a 10 percent sure. I'm planning to stay out there for about 3 days.

    About my gear...
    DD Camping Hammock
DD Tarp (i have two) one for top protection and one as a windblocker?
    DD underquilt made by Snugpak
a sleepingbag made by Haglöfs (specs say 5* F in the extreme)

Will I be comfortable? I will bring a sack of firewood with me since I'm planning on getting someone to drive me to the location, so no hiking involved.

I have plans of buying a new sleepingbag, the Swedish armed forces has a sleepingbag system that's actually two sleepingbags (one summer/one winter) and used together that will sustain a extreme temp down to -40*

Anyone got any tips on things I should think of?
    Will my gear be sufficient?

what is that under quilt rated at?
using that 2nd tarp as a wind break will help.
You will need to be wearing good winter wool type long-underware, socks and a wool cap on your head at night. Have a down jacket or vest too, it can be wrapped around your feet if you need it.
I'm not crazy about sleeping bags because you're squishing the insulation flat on the bottom while in a hammock BUT they do wrap around the sides of you and keep you warm there.
You may need to pack an insulated pad to suppilament that under quilt.
Carry some of those paks of instant heat to throw into your hammock and keep you warm.

    I did a -15 C (5 F) hang last winter in the backyard.
    And overnight hike at -8 C (17 F).
    And had no problem !

    But, i had

And man was i toasty, actually had to zip open the bottom part of the sleeping bag to cope

Nasty DD don't mention the rating or the thickness of the quilt
So it's kind of hard to tell if it's warm enough.

    I would bring:
    • The best pad i have.
    • The warmest wool undergarment i have.
    • A down jacket (to use on top if needed).
    • A bottle (to use the warm bottle trick if needed)
    • Something warm for my head.
    • A mobile phone (if you need to bail)

Lastly, how old is that sleeping bag?
    Has it lost any loft?
The extreme temp of that sleeping bag, seems uncomfortable close to
    the temps you expect.
The extreme temp of a sleeping bag is , A You Wont Die rating, Very cold.
    (A silly rating really)

We all, hope for a really cold winter in Sweden, don't we

    Ps, have a nice tripp.

    Edit
Changed the UQ URL to the 74 post.

@ Moski >great post, lost to take in there....

The sleepingbag is practically brand new, have sleept in 3 or 4 times only..
I'm aware that my sleepingbag is only a 3 season bag, I think I will invest in the Swedish Army bag, extreme temp is -40*

You're welcome. Since I am merely in the "vacuuming knowledge" phase of this obsession (until I try hanging), I resort to geeky contributions to increase my post count, now at 74.

Recommend you solve the under insulation first....

MWUQ-4 is serious state of the art, full length UQ rated to zero itself as a start point...But hey I'm biased.
