Looking for very thick foam pad

We are about to go on a week long tour of southern Utah. Many nights will be spent camping at national parks so no hammocking allowed. Which leaves me sleeping on my thermarest pro light 4 which is brutal on the back!!! I was thinking of getting a big thick open cell foam pad but I wouldn't know where to get it. REI makes the deam time XL but $200 dollars seems a bit steep for a pad that is only 77x25x3. I know I've seen nice big foam pads but I'm not sure where. Ideally I'd like to get something that is 50" wide, then my wife can leave her thermarest at home as well.

Can't help with the pad part, but to the best of my knowledge there are no regs against hammocks in National Parks and Forests. Finding trees in Southern Utah may be a challenge, but as long as you're on National land there should be no hammock-hating rules.

Then you should be good to go.
State Parks are the ones with anti-hammock rules.

I've never been to a national park campground where its ok to hang anything off trees. I won't be hammocking in Zion or Bryce.

Don't know about out west but I hang in Shenandoah National Park a lot. I'm pretty sure the rules are the same. The rangers seem to like hangers and our LNT attitude.

Knox Foam used to be excellent for this kind of stuff, but it appears they've gone under.

    Try this:

Really? That's the first I've heard of that. In fact, a gentleman at the BLM told me that other than Yosemite and a select few very high usage campgrounds, there are no hammock (or hanging) restrictions on Federal lands. Maybe some of the parks are setting 'local' rules now.

There are restrictions in Yosemite? No one told me that. Been north, south and west all over the park with the hammock. I've hung in Sequoia and am going again today. Rangers have seen it, too. Public campgrounds and all.

Have you considered an inflatable? NeoAir works for me. And what temp are you out in?

I hung in a campground in Bryce last year. They made me move to within 20' of the fire ring, but allowed me to hang.

For thick foam, what about a Wal*Mart blue pad?
