DIY question for integrated bug net

    Good afternoon fellow hangers,

I have been thinking of different ways I could mod my Dutch Argon gathered end hammock. I am thinking of adding an XTrekker/Hammeck style integrated bug net. I understand that side pull outs will be a must to add proper tension to the net.

My latest idea came from doing some browsing at a few different bridge hammocks. Particularly the Warbonnet Ridgerunner, and the Hiking Dad/Big Albino Bear DIY bridge. Both have pockets on the side which the zipper of the bug net attaches to. Could this same pocket idea be added to a gathered end hammock to allow some give for the bug net, to prevent pulling holes, as it is on the Ridgerunner/Big Albino Bear bridge hammocks?

    Many thanks

I'm not sure I understand about "pulling holes" If you attach the bugnet properly, you should have no problem. I'm not sure why you want the pockets? In a gathered end hammock, most folks use a ridgeline organizer or peak bag. That being said, I don't see why you couldn't make pockets if that's what you want.

It's an idea that came to mind. I am already using a ridgeline organizer, so these pockets would just be an alternative in that regard.

As for pulling holes, I'm referring to the tension on the bug net when the hammock is occupied. These pockets would be an extra level of flexibility to prevent that tension from pulling too much.

Any cons to the idea? Yes, it would add a few more ounces, but I'm not sure of any beyond that.

I thought about adding pockets to my argon from Dutch and modifying xtrekkers bugnet design a little. The only cons i could think of was time and the possibility that the pockets might look a little strange. I say go for it

I believe that is exactly what the WBBB shelf is. It's a pocket with a tie-out. If you only put light stuff in your pockets, you should be fine. But heavier stuff might annoy you, because every time you move in the hammock, the pocket likely will bump against you. That's why I prefer to use the tie-out on my WBBB shelf most of the time.

I think if you put the pocket high on the right side and slept head left it wouldn't bug you much. The problems I have with the shelf are heavier items bouncing out when I get in or out and it blocks your view. It would be pretty easy to make a quick pocket and pin it to your hammock to see how you like it.
