Sorry to hear it, was looking forward to meeting you. Another time.
I'm doubting we'll have 10 also, but I'm happy to do the canoe trip via rentals. I'll know more about shuttling when we finalize our travel plans in the next couple of weeks.

Turns out Red Moose, mi padre, has his own "hang" in the planning stage... there are a half dozen RVs that will get together, probably at an RV campground outside the Big Bend NP.
However, since we don't have a group (9 required... I count 7 or 8), is there any need to reserve a site? Instead, let's just head for the Chisos trailhead. The first one there can leave a trail of breadcrumbs...

OK, we are not going to a campground. So how far does everyone feel comfortable travelling the first day? I can probably be there around 3 PM on Fri. 4 PM with permit at the trailhead. Sunset is at 6:49.
I have to go to B'ham tomorrow to have some work done on my truck and thought I would run by Carto-Craft and see what kind of maps they have on Big Bend....Does anyone have a map of the Park?
Trails illustrated has one.
They sell that at the store in the park.
I reallly like laurence parent's hiking book as well.
Looks like he has a second edition out now....I'll have to get one.
The picture on the cover is from the South Rim near SW4 btw.

I bought the Trails Illustrated Map by Nat Geo today. It seems to be a good map. thanks for the link to the hiking book Schrochem, I'll have to check it out.
This link gives some detail and a picture of the campsites in Chisos. http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisi...Sites-2007.pdf
