Spoke with Skippy on the telephone today about a simple itinerary.

First, let's meet at Chisos and backpack through there over the weekend. On Monday, we can move to a base camp at Cottonwoods or Rio Grande Village and day hike from there.

Second, let's reserve a guided kayak trip. Not sure where, so let's talk about it.

I talked with Scottybdiving this afternoon by PM and he is going to check on the road conditions to Marisacl on Big Bend forums. They had a flood last spring and the roads were washed out but the NPS is trying to repair them.

Skippy says that Scotty says that the NPS says the roads are in bad shape... Scotty is working on another river trip, an overnight, possibly with rented canoes and no guide.

Hogn8r, are you still in for this trip, with a couple of friends?

    *shakes head*

A Texas rancher would have run out there on a D6, and made those roads passable in a week. Meanwhile, the Park Service dithers...

I'm still trying to put my trip together, and hopefully be there with you guys. I did find my next down river racing rocket that I want to use on this trip and I'll bring the tandem that I used last year for a couple of those up for it. I'd highly recommend the short trip up the river at santa elena and to fern canyon. It's an easy trip if the water level is low. I'd also be up for an overnighter ...... and I'll be ready with my blackbird bivy conversion (I hope). what are you guys thinking about using is not your hammocks? I'd like to bring a few climbing nuts or some thing so I could try a cliff face if I got the chance ....

I'd love to find three 21' lightweight poles for a Prairie Travois. Otherwise, I've got two 7' aluminum poles... might ought to acquire four more for tripods at each end. I intend to hang!

With all the chaos that is currently happening at the airports, I am going to drive instead of fly. Might get my pack from baggage claim with all my stakes confiscated, no telling what else they might take, just not gonna take the chance!! Leaving Jackson around 3pm or earlier on the 4th. Anyone that needs a ride from here just let me know

Scotty mentioned the Santa Elena Canyon trip as a 1 nite-2 day float as an alternative trip to the Mariscal float.......anyone with more ideas ?
