I would love to go back to Big Bend. It has been a long time. After I moved to Central Texas, it has not been as convenient. There are more extensive river trips (multi-day) through Santa Elena or Boquillas Canyons but I never made it through them. I think you could hang, especially if car camping. Some places would probably be a challenge and some would be very difficult.

Then I'll bring my 7' aluminum poles, re-bar stakes and a sledge hammer.

Great news, Feather! You can ride with me.

I'll see if Angrysparrow can change the title to "Big Bend Natl Park on Mar 12-14"... for personal reasons, it must be that weekend! My daughter's birthday is the following weekend, and my father will just be arriving on the previous weekend.

I hope that date works for all who are interested!

Are you driving from NC? You will only be able to see a fraction of the area with 3 days.

If I drive, I'll add driving time to each end of the weekend.

Ya'll have to come through jackson, Ya'll can both hitch a ride with me! If everything works, we can stay at the cabin that's close to ruston LA. Checking with the boss now. Gonna have a new 3 month old by then, dont want to stress the boss too much

Hedcase, how about if I rent a big 4WD, pick up Running Feather in Hendersonville, Angrysparrow in Memphis, and you in Jackson, then go to Spicewood to pick up Scottybdiving?

Who else along the way wants to hang with us and share the cost of the rental (pro-rated by the mile)?

Here is a route [EDIT: without Memphis].

It'd be a straighter drive for me to meet you guys in Jackson and proceed from there since we're going southwest.

You guys are animals. Drive 2 days each way to camp for 2-3 days. I can't commit at this time. My paying job is not a problem, it's my side gig and I will not know the 2010 schedule until as late as Jan. If I can join y'all, I would probably drive my 4WD Duramax. I know from experience that it can be beneficial to have two vehicles in the backcountry of Big Bend.
