    Hi

I have hung off prussicks for most of the winter absolutely no slippage and quite easy to move hammock laterally ie loosen one end and tighten other to move hammock left to right between supports. But also to raise or lower the hammock with out disturbing the treehugger.

You think this would be different enough to skirt the HH patent? I'm far from a lawyer, but I have my doubts...

It is technically not a ridge line and is a suspension system.

I don't think it's close to the HH patent. I'm pretty sure the patent describes a "fixed" ridgeline...and this clearly isn't.

We'll have to bring it up to him. My concern as a gear maker with be the long term life of the knot. I am no knot guy, but this type of knot might be something that has to be checked and possibly retied from time to time. It might be something that you would not want in an off the shelf hammock.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I don't see how this would reduce the weight of the hammock, 8mm cord is pretty heavy(over kill too , Been climbing a long time and we use 8mm cord for anchors and it holds 2000+lbs) ,plus he is using the biner. I'm a long time climber and use pursiks alot and they hold very well. What are the pro's to using this set up, because I'm not seeing anything but excess weight.

Well here is my two cents on this ridge line that HH uses and someone correct me if I am wrong.

The ridge line that the HH uses is actually tied into the ends of the hammock anyways so in reality in my opinion it is basically one piece of line.

    Hi Sleepingcoyote,
this setup would probably not reduce any weight at all, however it would allow the movement of hammocks between support trees to ensure centering, as well as adjusting the sag instantly without having to undo knots.

Last weekend, the only hanging spot I could find in a very scrub-ish offtrack campsite were two trees about 2 metres further away that I normally use. Because of this, even when the support lines were tied higher up the tree and tighter than normal, I found it difficult to adjust the sag normally. I ended up having to retie the hennessy style knot about 3 times. If the hammock were adjusted with prussiks, it would have been far easier.

As to the 8 mil rope, I'm sure its possible to use something a little smaller...
