    BB Pad Choice Made

I made a pad choice for my BB. Following Brandon's direction, I decided on Landau Foam at a1foamandfabrics.com as a much cheaper and very close alternative to the Minicel at foambymail.com. I ordered 3 yds of the 1/4" x 60" (more than enough for 2 pads with cutting mistakes) at $21.00 vs $56.00 for (2) 48"x72" pcs of the Minicel. This will allow me the option of doubling up my pads on -20 deg nights. Thanks Brandon! I will eventually still end up with an underquilt but for the time being this will give me an inexpensive start to my trial and error process.

Make sure you contact them and confirm your order and the final price plus shipping. I ordered 3 yards, got charged for 4 plus another $43 shipping. I also never got an email with the final price (had to ask them) nor a UPS tracking number. It's currently on it's way back for a refund. I hope you have a better experience.

I'd like to add that once I contacted A1 about my screwed-up order they responded quickly and seem willing to work with me, but I can't get over that shipping charge! This in no way reflects on WBG either - he obviously doesn't run A1 foam and fabrics...

Thanks for the advice! Sent them an email just now relating your experience and asking
to be notified of the shipping charge prior to processing order.
Also checked out the system for ordering Minicel from foambymail.com and found it to be the same. You have to place, and pay for, your order before finding out the shipping charge. No way to comparison shop there. However, assuming $21.00 + $43.00 that would put the Landau Foam at $64.00 (enough for 3 mats). Getting the Minicel would be $56.00 for 2 mats and I'm sure their shipping will be more than the $8.00 difference.
More than I was expecting to spend but the Landau still seems to be the better deal of the 2. I will let you know how it turns out.

The Landau Foam from www.a1foamandfabrics.com arrived today.
They never contacted me with the shipping cost but I ordered 3 yds and got 3
yds. Shipping was only $16.97 from CA to GA.

    (1/4" x 60" x 3yds) Total cost including shipping was $37.89

i ordered from them and am satisfied with the product. i think i only got 1 yard by 60" long. shipping for that was $12 if i recall.. then i found a place called "tempe sales" which is an oddball material shop used to do anything from theater curtains to auto upholstery. they sell 1/4 volara for $5 a yard. you might check your yellow pages for something like this, save money!

I checked that out, along with the minicel at www.foambymail.com

Brandon's advice was that the minicel and the landau foam were about the same, with the landau foam being much cheaper. His experience was that the landau foam was "way better" than the volara. Considering I got enough for three pads, (enough to screw it up once and still have 2), I am happy with the $37.89.

OK, so I made a typo. Won't be the last time.

I can guarantee you I am not going to be sleeping outside at -20 deg.
I don't even want to live where it gets -20 deg.
