Just came back from a 2 days ride/camping 400 miles trip in northern new mexico. Beautiful scenery, paved and dirt roads on my DR650. Here is a little video. Sorry no shot of the hammock camping, got to camp late and left really early, next time...

    Very, very newbie

I'm a very new motorcyclist whose desire to take the bike on overnight camping trips led her to hammock camping.

The bike and the hammock have been acquired; now to set up a little trip.

The adventure biking looks like such a blast; thanks for letting me live vicariously since I'm not at that level!

Way to go ladylysis! Skills don't matter as long as you ride within yours and be safe, go out there and have fun! it doesn't have to be a trip to ushuaia to have a blast.
Like my youtube channel name says i consider myself a noob rider too, but after every ride I slowly gain skills and confidence.
    What bike are you riding?

I'm on an '06 Suzuki Boulevard S40 - aka a Savage or LS650. I've had her for six weeks, and I'm 90 miles from breaking 1k. Not sure why I let myself be dissuaded from it for so long.

My current setup. I rented the camper (background) for my first little trip, and knew that I needed to be able to carry my own sleeping gear. Saddlebags of some sort are clearly in my future...

Sleeping in riding gear sounds like more of a pain than packing a top quilt...not to mention the eventual unbearable stench. I'd recommend a DIY or cottage industry TQ and sorting out how to pack the limited space. Generally I lay out all the stuff "needed" and then put half of it away until it fits and the trip is still a go. Priorities are comfortable sleeping and good chow, then cut other stuff. I started with synthetic sleeping bag and UQ but soon decided to go with the high speed low drag dedicated hammock backpacking down stuff and haven't looked back. Good to see a bunch of moto hammockers popping up.

Yeah, some sort of luggage definitely helps. Ask around for input on bags, there are so many different choices and some are quite pricey. Congrats on your first trip!!!

We have a set of throw over bags for the wife's s40, small cheapie leather things but they do the job. I don't think they make hard bags for the s40 but you may be able to modify a set from a s50t!
Now if only I could get her to ride some more!

It looks like the OP never came back since his March 2015 intro thread.
I'm closing this thread since its not really getting any welcome to the forum posts.
