    Wink Tarp & Undercover material

    Hi,
New to the forum and have cruised around but can't find a definite answer.
I want to make a larger tarp/fly than the standard Asym for my HH Expedition.
What material is best; needs to be waterproof and light?
I like looks of the Blackcat for design but if you've got any other suggestions.....!

I live in the tropics of Australia and although our weaher conditions are generally mild, last night camping got down to 0C [32F]. A tad cold for my liking so have spent most of tonight researching ways to keep warm in a Hammock.
What have you found to be the best method of keeping warm without adding too much to pack weight?

I'm thinking of making an undercover for my HH. Again what is the best material to use.
    regards

    Welcome emmsee.

Most here swear by SilNylon as the best lightweight waterproof material for tarps. You can order it from Ed Speer at Speer Hammocks at $4 per yard. I don't know how much shipping would be but I'm fairly sure he'll ship Down Under. The BlackCat is a good design, I've made one myself and really like the protection.

There's lots of good info about staying warm in hammocks and all sorts of DIY stuff pertaining to hammocks on Just Jeff's site as well as many good threads here.

I have an HH Undercover and it's made of SilNylon. Most here prefer to use a more breathable type of material for Undercovers, Overcovers, Hammock Socks, etc. such as a DWR Nylon.

If you are looking for more local suppliers, contact titanium_hiker (check spelling) and maybe a couple others on this site. They are from your part of the world and may know of places closer that offer them.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

    Hi emmsee!
    Welcome to the forum!
I also live in the tropics but our temperature only ranges from 38C to 15C. It is only in the highlands that temperature goes down to 0C. Generally a sleeping bag works well for me during the wet/cold season. I sleep most of the times with light blanket or quilt. I think a sleeping pad and a thicker quilt or light sleeping bag well work well for your type of climate.

For those not familiar with Celsius - 38C to 15C is 100F to 59F and 0C is 32F
