    Fabric problem?

    Hello
I guess most people start their first post with a question, so I shall not disappoint.

I have just received my bespoke hammock from a reputable manufacturer and upon first inspection, found a problem with the fabric. There is a small area that looks like the individual threads are looser than the rest of the threads. This gives it a very thin/sheer appearance. The hammock is a single layer made from 1.5oz ripstop nylon .
Here is a link to a pic of the area

    And another

So the question is...Is this a real problem regarding the strength of the hammock warranting a replacement or repair or is it just cosmetic damage?
Any opinions or advise greatly received.

I wouldn't trust it. Send it back for an exchange.

    I'd exchange it.

Well, it's difficult to tell if there's any real damage. With the lighter fabrics it often happens that the threads are moved. You can "stroke" the fabric a bit and see if you can move the threads so that it looks normal again. In any case, I would contact the hammock maker and ask his opinion, too.

my hammock has a couple of minor sections like that - i believe are/were caused by myself the first times i tried it out- although they may have been there before i got init but did not notice them - more than likely a button or stud on my jeans causing it.
neilm - i presume you brought yours from the same place i did... worth mentioning it to matt as it could be an issue in their manufacturing chain - as yet ive had not failure/spread of my sections like yours.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My feeling is that the uneven nature of the weave of the bad patches is putting undue strain on some of the fibres, which will result in a weak patch. I've emailed the manufacturer with my concerns but they are away so will have to wait a while for a reply.

I think I would want a refund and purchase from a different vendor.

I would not want to risk a fall.
