Need some advice

I am about to make my first Hammock tent. I have been doing lots of research and see that most people use a 1.9 oz ripstop nylon. Somewhere I saw it rated that at 250 lbs (on Speers I think). I am much larger. 6'1 340lbs. I am working considerably on my weight (lost 45lbs so far) but I want to know if 1.9 is strong enough or is it made in a stronger variety. I had considered something like canvas or denim (since I have some denim) But I know that will greatly increase the weight and packing size of the hammock. Also would 1.5 webbing be good for the support?

It is better to err on the side of caution! If you feel that the ripstop is not adequate then make it a layered hammock. Two layers of tafeta or ripstop would be adequate for your weight. Do not use canvas or denim. Those fabrics hardly stretch! You need a fabric that stretch a bit and conform to your body. Besides, the canvas/denim takes a long time to dry if wet (heavy too). Im not very familiar with webbings available in your area but i made mine out of 2 layers of 1" nylon sewn together and they worked fine for me (im about 85 kgs.).

You might want to look into tubular (Climb-Spec) webbing. It is very strong. I got some of the 9/16" at REI.com. Just search for "tubular".

I agree with what is said above. For now I would error on the side of caution. Climbing webbing is a good idea. I would use something rated to 2000 lbs or higher. Also 2 layers of 1.9 untreated should work well.
