    Cinch Buckle Suspension

After much back and forth discussion, I convinced my friend to not buy an ENO, but to instead buy a Dutch NylonD or Argon. As a birthday gift, I ordered the Cinch Buckle Suspension from Dutch for her. I've been using whoopie slings since the beginning. What are some of the pros and cons to the cinch buckle setup in relation to whoopies?

Easier adjustment. Not that whoopies are difficult, CBs just need a little pull and they are ready to go. The con is you have a bigger piece of hardware that might weigh a little more plus you typically have longer straps so it may not be as compact. Can't really go wrong either way.

IMO the most important one is that you can get the hammock connection point closer to the tree, which opens up your range of hanging possibilities. Otherwise, its preference, but I find it to be the simplest method, even simpler than slap straps.

And you can get by without separate tree straps to create more confusion in setup and left behind when tearing down. ;-)

What they said. Whoopies are lighter - which makes even more of a difference if you need a very long suspension. They probably pack a bit smaller, too. I switched back to a webbing/cinch buckle suspension because I often had to hang in tight spaces, and whoopies can't be adjusted right down to the hammock end. They are also more difficult to loosen when the hammock is loaded (when you need to adjust the angle).

Cinch buckle suspensions are dead easy to use. The are more flexible. The are made of one piece. But they are heavier. However, now that Dutch sells kevlar straps, that might not be an issue anymore. I haven't tried those, though.

Love the cinch buckles! I just finished my suspension up and tested it out. 10 foot Kevlar straps, Ti cinch buckles, 8" homemade continuous loops with whoopie hooks, and old-style Dutch clips. Weight is 4 3/4 ounces in a cuben stuff sack. Weight is for both sides. Those Kevlar straps are a pretty color too.
My lightest suspension is the Speed-hook suspension. It is 2 1/2 ounces for both sides, including 40 inch Kevlar straps, 7 foot 7/65 amsteel cords, speedhooks. So far, so good on the speedhooks, but I have only hung on them 1 night and 1 mild March afternoon.

I switched over to clinch buckles. The little extra weight is worth it for ease of setup. I'm going to pick up some Kevlar for straps next.

went from descending ring (pre-cinch buckle) to whoopies, back to rings, back to whoopies, now just ordered cinch buckle with Kevlar straps. the advantage of the straps is the simplicity and you can do it with mittens on. you can hang anywhere. like two steel poles 10 ' apart in a DC Amtrack station
