I have hiked and hung up there quite a few times. i have never had any issues with the campsite accomidating hammocks and water is available. There is water at the main building in a spigot outside as well as streams and creeks that run thru there. i spoke with the ranger last year and he did speak of some farmer run off concerns after a heavy rain due to all of the chemicals the farmers are using these days. The main building is pretty easily accessable if you plan your route correctly. most of the trails up there are loops and you can go from campsite to campsite and just make a stop on the way to refill water. I have dates in mind for hanging with my buddy. May 1st and 2nd. Not sure what camp site but my guess would be Glen Wendel. Any one would be more than welcome to join us or if you would just want to swing by. Might bring some poles to do some trout fishing during the day and look for some morrells also.

I just got back from a last minute weekend trip to YRSF. Camped at John Schultz Friday and Glen Wendel last light. Loved hanging in the pines at Glen Wendel!!

IS there any water to filter at Glen Wendel?

There's water in the pond along with turtles and a lot of gold fish.

Browns hollow is a nice spot with good water for filtering.

I've filtered the water at Brown's several times in the past. The guys I was with this time filtered water from the stream that flows through the little paint camp ground too.
