They'd probably want to camp far enough away from us so that our laughing wouldn't bother them anyway!

If we camp in a really hilly area we could like award a prize for the most extreme hang.

The spot I am talking about is downhill from the shelter. So there is quite a slope to hang on if you want.

Hello All,
I live in Baltimore and find that most of the hammock get togethers are taking place in the southern states. Do any of you living in the Mid-Atlantic region, i.e., MD, DE, PA, N. VA, etc., have an interest in starting a non-formal, loose knit group to get together once or twice a year...or whatever... to talk/hang hammocks in the area? I broached Just Jeff about his possible interest in getting together with a group of us at a trailhead in the future and talking hammocks with us and those who wish could then keep hiking or head home depending on their schedules. He was open to the idea since he gets to DC from time to time, but he is pretty busy during this trip.
I also wonder if any of the hammock manufacturers or hammock "gurus" would be interested in meeting with us if we had enough people involved. Just a thought.
In any case, I thought that I'd throw the idea out and see what others in the area think.

Sounds good to me. I live in Columbia, MD. I've only hung out two times so I would enjoy gaining some experience from some of the other gurus.

I live in PA and would love to attend. This site has given me so many ideas. Th Thru hiked in 2003 with a ulba, a z-rest, amd a Fleece sleeping bag ( except the cold parts in the beginning and end then I had a down sleeping bag). Thats roughing it after spending hours reading the great posts from HF. I have made my 1st hammock and I'm sure I will be making others.

How bout Pine Grove Furnace in PA, its close to the mid point of the AT and has a camping area for hanging and the trail goes right by there. Some of our hanging thru hikers may be in that area around june/july
