I have a bad knee, so hanging too low makes it hard to get out of the hammock for me. I'd say mine is tallish chair height. Getting in & out takes a little fine tuning and practice when you're new at it (or most of the time for me) so you don't embarrass yourself in front of others. Practice at home first!

I hang a little better than knee high. Comfort is the key!

I hang in front of a mirror every night. Looks to be about 10" to 12" from the bottom of my UQ to the floor. Like the rest, it's set at or just above chair height for my knees. I don't find myself using a hammock for a chair as much as others seem to do.

It depends on the weather/conditions for me. The more the wind, rain, snow and cold is blowing, the closer to the ground I get. The hotter, more humid worse the ticks, snakes, other animals are, the higher I go. Hey, if there were really dangerous critters in the area, I could see me climbing a tree and hanging 20 feet up! I wouldn't like it....but I could do it!
I prefer to be about 12-18 inches though.
