How high do you like to hang?

I'm new to hammock camping and want to know the preferred height to hang. I have a XLC and SF tarp if that makes a difference on recommendations.

The usual recommendation is hammock 18 inches off the ground. That way you can sit comfortably. My leg from sole to knee is approx. 23 inches so I tend to hang a little higher. The only thing about hanging higher is that more wind and rain can get under the sides.

Chair height. So that you can stand up and sit down with ease
Always last to the camp site.

Chair height is the normal....no good reason to be any higher...who really wants to climb to get in and out. Like Silver said if your taller or shorter you can customize your "chair" height just for you.

6" that way the dog can get in and out and the tarp is 6" off ground.

It could also be phrased....how far are you willing to fall? For me about 18 inches is right on the money.

I love using my hammock as a camp chair without the sides digging into the back of my legs. So adjust accordingly. hth
