    Looking for Pfaff 19 info

I'm thinking about looking at this Pfaff 19. Does anyone know anything about this machine? The little I've been able to find is that Pfaff basically rebadged Janomes and had them made by Dorina in West Germany instead of Japan. Here is a description of a Pfaff 18 that I found. I'm thinking that the 19 is a 18 with a cam operated decorative stitch function added.

The description of the 18 says it's all metal guts, so I'm hoping that would be the case with the 19. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

This machine has the option to have the feed dogs high, low or dropped. Has anyone ever used a machine with this option?

Does anyone know for sure if this is a high shank machine and if you can use industrial high shanks with it?

I don't really know anything about either machine...however, I'm going to say the "industrial" wording on ebay is just standard ebay hype and it is only a home machine and uses standard high shank presser feet.

Many, if not most quality home machines allow you to drop the feed dogs. This allows free hand quilting and darning in any direction.

I'm aware of the "industrial" hype stuff. I know I can drop the feet on most if not all the machines I have now. This one has three settings though. According the the Pfaff 18 manual I found. 0 = Machine feed dropped completely for embroidering, darning and button sewing. 1 = Machine feed dropped partway for sewing delicate fabrics. 2 = Machine feed raised for sewing medium and heavy-weight fabrics.

Sorry can't help. I think for almost all Pfaff, Kayser-Pfaff or Gritzner-Kayser (which is also Pfaff) technical handbooks are available. I find them only by random. But sometimes I see them also on Ebay in English.

The user manual for the Pfaff 18 should be available here

But the link didn't work today. Don't know why.

That is not an industrial machine in the sense of being used in industry. It may well be a heavy duty machine, Pfaff's have a reputation for being beasties. But it is certainly a home machine, particularly in the cabinet in which it is shown.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Well, I brought it home for $25. It needs a clean and lube. Something seems goofy with the top tension. I'm not sure if it was because I had different top and bottom threads because I was too lazy to make a new bobbin to test it. I'll see if it's still a problem after cleaning and running the same thread top and bottom. I'm waiting for acceptance to the Old Pfaff Pforum on Yahoo to hopefully find out some more details on this machine. Here are a couple pics of it after getting it into the house.
