There are only 3 cons that i know of.

First is they are a little heavier. This can be fixed with lighter suspension options and carbon fiber spreader bars.

next is they require trees that are about 3-4 ft further apart. I've had to do a little more searching at times to find the right trees and have passed a few spots on that hunt that would've worked just fine with a gathered end.

Lastly you have to be a little more careful entering/exiting the hammock so as to not poke a hole in your tarp with the spreader bars. The only way around being careful is to always have the pullouts pulled out.

Yeah. I'm hoping the comfort value will outweigh the cons. I tend to find trees far apart anyway. Also, I ordered the sleeves that Paul at Arrowhead Equipment sells to protect the tarp, not that I'll be careless

IMHO, you won't need any bumpers unless you have a cuben tarp pitched low and tight. I usually pitch my tarp in porch mode, but even when it's pitched low and tight, I haven't had any problems... and the little tips of the spreaders make a fair bit of contact on the tarp.

I do use the adapters sold by Warbonnet for the trekking poles though. The tips are rounded, and very smooth, just like the tips of the spreader poles that come with the hammock.

Speaking of carbon fiber polls, is Quest outfitters the way to go? And what about the small piece in the middle on the head end? Does Quest offer that or will I need a pipe cutter?

The CF poles Quest offers are small diameter tent poles and will not have the strength or stiffness required to use as RR spreader bars.

Here is an earlier thread with a source that will make CF spreader bars...https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...-spreader-bars.

I would literally pay $50 to ensure that my hammock is ready in time for my trip next week.

I totally would have done the same thing a few weeks ago waiting on a quilt!

Gotta chime in here. My first post introduction post.

Ordered a double layer Ridge Runner on 3-14, so I'm feeling the anxiety too. My first hammock.

As an update, it is now 11 days after the one week estimate I received and I have yet to receive any word on my RR being finished. Make no mistake, I am not trying to say anything bad at all about Warbonnet as a company or Brandons word. I understand an estimate is just that, an estimate. It'll come when it comes, even if I am chomping at the bit to get it out.
