You are right. I have seen a lot of threads with people arguing what the best set up is. Like most will tell on here, I've found hammock gear fit can be vary from person to person. Rei is great and I'm glad they sent you here before you paid for 1 of there setups. I have had an Eno, HH, & now a Clark NX-250. So far the Clark is my favorite but its not the lightest. I am hoping to get a Dutch or Dream setup soon. Dutch seems to be the best bang for the buck. I use a mummy style pad still & have taken it down to the low 30's. It wasn't the warmest night but wasn't that bad. I would check out Dutchwaregear.com, But be careful he has so much cool stuff, its hard to decide what to get

You are correct....everyone's got their own opinions, and really none of them are wrong. If you have a group hang nearby, might be a chance to try a few. I'm similar in size (6'2 - 205)...and I decided the WB XLC was best for me. I haven't gone super "gram weenie" yet, so my whole setup is heavy compared to most....but I opted for more capabilities. Good luck, and the gear search can be lots of fun...so enjoy!

I also recommend attending a group hang. You can actually see and touch gear.

    welcome to the madness

Now you have to get a TQ and UQ and lots of Dutch Bling.

As others have said, attend a group hang in your area to see other setups and talk to the users. The folks there will be happy to help you get your set up dialed in.

Word of caution....if you are at a hang with Grannypat and she gets near the fire, start backing up.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

My first hammock was a Hennesy Explorer Deluxe. It was comfortable but the fabric had a bad oder. I washed it several times and it still has it. I now have a Dream Hammock Thunderbird. Very comfortable and it doesn't`t stink! Beating a dead horse here, but comfort, weight, and ease of set-up depends on you. The group hangs are awesome and highly recommended. You meet people who enjoy the same thing and can experiment with different setups etc. Good luck and have fun!
