    First Hang!

It was just in my backyard but after weeks of foul weather it was nice to finally get to test out my new equipment.

Like a lot of first-timers my set up is a Hennessey (expedition asym zip) with the Hex tarp and super shelter. not knowing what to expect and with temperatures predicted to get down to the low 30s I took along my 15° rated sleeping bag.

After getting it all set up climbing in wearing my poly pro long johns I easily slipped into my bag, read about 20 minutes of Game of Thrones, and quickly dozed off. I was toasty warm and very comfortable with the gentle swaying caused by the windy evening. I got up at about 3 AM to readjust the tarp because of the winds had blown loose from where I had tied it off but I quickly climbed back in and was back off to sleep in about another 20 minutes.

When I broke it down this morning I was eager to see if I had any condensation collected in the undercover and was surprised to find only a very minimal amount near where my head was. I had read that this could happen even with a space blanket but that the space blanket did help to minimize it.

All in all on a scale of 1 to 10 I give it about a 7.5 for comfort. I'm sure as I get more accustomed to it and refining my set up a little bit more that number will increase.

Looking forward to getting it with some of the local guys now and getting used to hanging rather then ground dwelling!

A most mysterious calling harbour, So far but yet so near, I can see the day when my hair's full gray! And I finally disappear."

Always good to get the first one behind you. Always something new to learn, somewhere new to hang, some new idea to try. Glad it went well for you.

+1 on hanging at home for the first time. You definitely learn the more you hang the hammock. I have excited the family into getting into Hanging and just bought 2 more hammocks and tarps so we plan on hanging in the back yard next weekend.....enjoy !!
